That 4
Friends Movie
Cast read-through
For the day to meet the cast, I gussied myself all
up and tried to look
killer (and I guess I looked all right), but when I got to the
conference place, all that were there were a bunch of no-name actors
waiting on the real people to get there, so no matter how long I tried
to wait out in the lobby, I pretty much got gobbled up in the
crowd. Plus there was this one big-eyed beautiful girl who was
playing a character opposite Thomas, and she pretty much sucked the
beauty appreciation out of the room. Ah, well...
And I wasn't expecting so many people there.
Jane showed up first,
very much polite but still seriously into her cell phone, off in a
corner to herself. Guest cameo Matthew scurried in (very serious
and funny at the same time -- doesn't like to waste time on nonsense,
but brings down the house with laughter every time he opens his
mouth). I can't even remember if Harry and Thomas came in the
same
car with a couple of other people (I think so), so I pretty much saw
them in the lobby. Harry was grinning and excited, very great
company. Thomas looked tired but polite. Later, after
everyone sat down and the meeting started, I glanced at him and he was
giving me his classic hound dog eyes with closed lip smile that totally
melted my insides.
Also, both Harry and Thomas were sporting wedding
rings, taking the
fantasy life of Hollywood movie magic down another notch to Los Angeles
reality.
The readings, especially Harry and Richard, were
brilliant. I've
been reading through the script (out loud and acting it out) throughout
the weekend to time it (a script super's job), and I just didn't know
how they were going to pull off some of those scenes. A couple of
the unknowns were great -- one was amazingly accurate for a scene I
couldn't figure out to save my life. I knew I'd probably have to
read some parts for absent actors and I was dreaming of brilliant
readings that would impress everybody, but the unknowns did the
away-blowing. Moments that separate the wannabes from the
actors. I did get to read the part of Richard's mom, and so I got
to toss lines back and forth with Richard, Jane and Thomas, which was
cool, but I was too busy thinking I wasn't blowing anyone away to fully
appreciate the moment.
Now I'm going through the shaky-rebuilding thoughts
toward these people
(they're fine, it's me that needs to be fixed) and the ensuing panic
that we're leaving Friday morning for a week and I've got to go shopping or at least pack and I need to buy some
supplies and take care of stuff and probably finish the script
supervisor's continuity breakdown and so I'm basically excited panic
and a little nervous that I'll mess it up and get shipped home.
Oh, and I meet Thomas and Richard again tomorrow for
a photo
session. I'm thinking plain t-shirt, no lipstick...
