Day 13 - Tuesday
Today we shoot in the Gay & Lesbian Center.
We were warned at the first production meeting that
shooting on this
location was just as squirrelly if not more so than when we were going
to shoot at the real bike trek. We were told there is a
clinic in the building where people will be coming and going,
confidentially being tested for HIV, and cameras are a major
no-no. We have to be very sensitive to these people’s privacy and
how nervous they are coming in to be tested or getting their
results. Props was depending on my Polaroid camera for their own
notes.
Later Wardrobe Marcy and Tracy told me that when
Harry was
standing in the
lobby, wearing an outlandish skin tight outfit with sunglasses, a
black
gay man walked by him, stopped, turned and looking at him said with
enthusiasm, “You are cute!” Harry confidently smiled and said,
“Thank you.” Excellent! We were pleased Danny was confident
enough to know how to graciously take a compliment.
Building tenant-wise, it wound up being the most
relaxed, nurturing
environment to date. The people were very nice and accommodating,
letting us be a little more distracting than we originally intended,
and made us feel very welcome.
But this was Guest Cameo Matthew day, and his
draining
presence blew
away any thoughts about our environment. He started out pleasant
enough, muttering and mumbling lots of funny comments under his
squinting expressions to me and Tracy, who stayed with him most of the
day. But during rehearsal, tension rose between him and Alfredo.
Tradition of not telling the crew who the new people
continues.
Camer Loader Karen left today to work on another show, and was replaced
by
“Zeke” (his real name is Michael, but we all ready too many of
those). We noticed there was someone we didn’t recognize walking
away with our film mags throughout the day. We were relieved when
we found out hours later that he was indeed one of us and that we would
see the film again.
During some point when PA Gabriel was challenging AD
Michael about some
conflict, Michael warned him, “I figured it out. I can kill up to
three people and still have a props department!” leaving Gabriel and
everyone within earshot in laughter.
When PA Kent returned from the Starbucks run with
frappacinos for those
who ordered them, Harry couldn't believe Kent did not bring
straws. Ron gaffer was more than annoyed that someone else must
have gotten his drink. Although Michael and Steven introduced the
idea as a nice break for the crew, Lonnie was making us pay for them
ourselves (unless, you know, you were, you know…), so I opted to not
get anything.
GC Matthew told me and Tracy bits of stuff, his real
name, cool
people he’s worked with. When he found out I was from Atlanta, he
kept bringing
up “Five Little Points,” meaning Little Five Points, as a hang out when
he was there filming stuff. He hung around me all day, sitting by
me whenever Alfredo wasn’t talking to him, insisting I join him at
lunch. Toward the end
of the day, he sat by me and serenaded me with Georgia on my
Mind. I smiled and laughed at everything in the beginning
to try
to keep him happy for Alfredo. By the end of the day, I was too
tired to do anything but avoid him.
