That 4 Friends Movie

Day 18  - Monday night

West Hollywood is the current location -- and the beginning of night shoots.  We arrived at the restaurant/fine pottery store set last night at 5:30 and the traffic snarl was nasty -- kind of like bringing in trucks in a Little Five Points side road during afternoon rush hour.   What was hilarious was that it got busier as the night wore on.  West Hollywood is nicknamed "Boys Town" for its busy gay community, so the restaurant was filled with men really enjoying looking at the handsome guys on our crew, which unnerved some of the guys and endlessly entertained the less-good-looking guys who were torturing them, putting their arms around them or pinching them on the behind.  I thought our film loader Zeke, who looks like he could be Dean Cain's blue-eyed brother, was going to pop his spine, he spun around so quickly when PA Craig patted his bottom.  It was also a field day for Richard, who was finally in a crowd who knew who he was (one particularly sappy guy, who told me more than once how many times he's seen one of Richard's movies kept hanging around to meet him  -  I don't know if he ever succeeded).

It was just a fun night, because we're shooting in the partying side of town and we're all loopy from suddenly switching scheduling gears from 7 a.m. calls to 5:30 p.m. calls.  Early in the evening, six of us girls (wardrobe, production coordinators, medic, craftservice--half of whom are gay) are standing on the sidewalk, giggling and making all kinds of suggestive comments.  At "lunch" (Chinese food at midnight, which no one could see in the dark -- I commented that some parts of my plate tasted better than other parts, but I didn't know what it was, and Richard said he was experiencing the same thing), Richard was discussing crew prospects for an upcoming kissing scene.  His character is supposed to kiss someone for a future scene, but they can’t think of anyone for the part.  By the time I've joined the conversation, Richard and Marcy are discussing the chances of acquiring either of the two best-looking and straight guys on the crew, which includes props guy Gabriel.  Right after I sit down, Gabriel sits down with us, they inform him he's been "chosen," he calmly says, "Yikes!" and Richard laughs.  (I later said I thought Gabriel had said "Thanks!" and Richard laughed harder.)  Then I suggested the Dean Cain loader, and Richard smiled wide-eyed at me and nodded enthusiastically.  Finally Richard left to call his ex-husband, who lived near-by, to see if he'd do it.

I also gained popularity by beginning to give killer back-rubs to the crew.  I don't know why I hadn't given them before -- you've got to be in a certain place with people before you just start rubbing their backs -- but it dawned on me that people would probably like it (especially after a sound guy told me the best script supervisors in the business never make mistakes and always give the sound guys back-rubs).  So sound guy, the first AD Michael, producer Alice (I had to toss a woman in there to save my reputation) and Thomas.

Later, I asked Thomas how he spent his day off.  He looked at me like he didn’t really want to get into it, and said he went home and just did stuff, boring stuff, but stuff that needed to be done and it made him happy.  Stella said she stayed by the pool, drinking all day, then went home to a night of passion with her husband.  I said I did a little writing, slept a little, watched a little TV, did a little more writing.  Thomas looked at me and said, “That sounds wonderful…”  Then he told me he spent a lot of time editing some stuff he’s working on.
