Day 9 - Wednesday
Big day – closing ceremonies at Santa Monica Pier –
amazing 300 extras walking around lost.
Brought pal Dayna with me for photo fun
opportunity. Right off the bat, we meet Scott Art Dept, who’s all
ready exhausted – “I didn’t get home last night until 10, I had to be
here this morning at 6, my finger (holds up bandaged finger) still
hurts, and I have sand in my shoes.” Then he stuns me by telling
me we’ve lost another crew member – 2nd 2nd AD Lisa is gone, replaced
by …
I see who I think is new PA Jodie and yell, “Hi,
Jodie!” and she looks at me and says, “I’m Maureen” and just as I’m
saying “Geez, good thing Jodie wasn’t here” I hear a voice behind
me claim “I’M Jodie!” Later I found out she’s the new 2nd
2nd. Even more later, I along with others assured her that I was
horrible with names. “We ought to wear name tags,” suggested
Craig. “Yeah,” Jodie agreed, “Hi,
Marilyn, my name is…”
We’re standing around near the beach while they’re
running around in circles trying to figure out where to put the extra
extras who are roaming, where to put the cameraS (three today) and
everything.
A small camera crew, Alfredo, me and AD Michael ride
up to the cliff over Santa Monica Beach to film a vista shot for the
closing shot, and AD Michael hears walkie conversation that supremo
cheap line producer Lonnie didn’t rent table and chairs for the extras,
claiming they don’t need anywhere to sit (for a mere $200 – in this
heat, including some old people I don't know if Lonnie knew about), and
Michael goes ballistic, Alfredo backs him.
At lunch, the actors show up.
So again we’re sitting around waiting for another
shot, Richard, Stand-in Teresa and Harry sitting on a bench, Jane and
me standing
around them, and Teresa has let on that there is “a list” of guys
ranking in the good-looking category. Richard asks, “Who’s second
to Thomas?” And Teresa goes on and on about how PA Gabriel is at
the
top of everyone’s list, and I toss in Harry’s edging Thomas and Teresa
adds to the list, and I’m noticing that Richard’s name is not being
mentioned, so I say, “That’s the dark hair category – we haven’t
finished the light-haired list--” But that’s lost on Teresa going
on about Gabriel, who walks by, and she playfully yells out to him that
he’s tops on most lists and EVIL WOMAN looks back at me with a smile
(she thinks we’re a couple or should be), and I say, “With Harry!”
(something I was hoping to avoid saying with Harry sitting in front of
me, but he was being unjustly overlooked).
So we move to the last shot, and Props asked Richard
if he had the helmet with him earlier. Richard replied, “Yeah, I
remember because I took a picture with this helmet.” I looked at
him and said, “Really? Where did you put the film?” The two
beats of him getting it, then the slow burn smile. It was
great.
