The Athenian Loyalty Dilemma

And thus began what led to the following exchange:

Okay, first off, KEY phrase here is "a television will be showing a football game" -- because, after attending a baby SHOWER (yes, because I'm a girl, it was a shower) and me discovering that Joe and Donna have some cool friends I'd like to see again at a casual gathering thingy and that one was planned for the near future, I was horrified to discover that it was opposite the Georgia/Tennessee game this Saturday night (the other October Saturday nights are Vandy and UAB, thus the horror of choosing the TENNESSEE night).  So knowing that the game will be on somewhere would definitely be the best of both situations.

Chris and Reed, consider yourself prodded, because some of these people I'd actually like to invite to next year's FUN FUN FUN FUN birthday bash, and pre-mixing would not only make for an extra swell Saturday night, it would increase (if that's possible) your glorious anticipation of my FUN FUN FUN FUN birthday bash (which promises to be more festive than last year's strange somber thingy).

Wait a minute -- guys don't have to bring presents?  I brought a present to the shower!  (It was a stuffed baby plush vulture)

Of course, if this was a HALLOWEEN baby-welcoming food drink football friends gathering thingy, that would be even cooler.

Yes, the "football game will be on a TV" is a deal closer phrase. Who are
these people? Can I call them to confirm that the game will be on? And yes,
despite the fact that I grew up in Brookhaven, I would need directions.

I spoke to Joe's sister-in-law a mere half-hour ago (she called to make sure that I got the invitations she mailed yesterday -- I said "The ones that don't have a time on it?" -- and to tell me that the shindig begins at 7:30), and she assured me that they would have the TV on the Tennessee game.

But I've only met her once and this is the Tennessee game.  Joe?

And I'm having to check the Mapquest thingy for directions as well.  Joe?

Directions will be forthcoming.  Fear not.

And, of course, there's a guarantee on the Georgia game.  What I want to
know is why is Marilyn referring to it as the TENNESSEE GAME????  Just who's
side is she on....

Joe

Hey!  EVERY Saturday is GEORGIA DAY!  (I had to express the urgency of the situation by pointing out that it is an ORANGE alert.)

[Note:  All orange teams are taken especially seriously in the MUST BEAT THEM category in Athens -- there's a UGA T-shirt that proclaims "I hate orange!" and is adorned with the appropriate icky school emblems: Clemson, Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee.  During my grad school days at Virginia Tech, my officemate (and undergraduate of same school) felt compelled to point out that the VT colors are BURNT orange and Chicago maroon, so as not to be lumped in with the common orange and therefore icky teams.]

Hey guys.  I hope this is helpful.  Let me know if it doesn't come out well
enough to read it and I'll try another plan.  It's about two minutes from
Brookhaven.  I figure the map is probably better than the written
directions, but if you just start at step 4 on Peachtree Road it doesn't
look too bad.

See ya there.  Go Dogs.  Sick'em.  Woof woof woof woof woof.
