Harry Potter and the Asheville Wolf Pack!
(continued)
While waiting for the unveiling of the boys' hair,
Ginger got
Jameson into a perfect little plaid school skirt and white shirt to
wear under her robe. Jameson also had a red tie, but we weren't
around
to that yet. I tried to get a picture of the adorable little
witch
with Maida the cat, but Maida wasn't interested, so I got pictures of
the adorable little witch with a cat walking away in the background
(and one with Jameson holding Jewelry her doll, because she commanded
me to). But the cape was pulling on her neck, so she wanted that
off
until we went to the party, and she wanted to change her shirt to a
cooler one (I'm guessing, I was pretty much just watching things change
all around me in the magical house).
As for the unveiling of the hair, Simon's was
perfect shiny red
Weasley hair (Ginger said they'd henna'ed their hair earlier in the
year on a lark, and she knew his would look good), while Ethan's was a
slightly darker shade of the green blue. But we assured him he
looked
great, which he did (I later commented maybe he looks like Harry had
taken some gillyweed) and he's fine with it, since he had his wand, his
wire rim glasses that were NOT the ones I brought and do NOT make him
look goofy, his school robe with pants/shirt/tie ensemble (as did
Simon), and a scar drawn on his forehead.
And the search for the grown-up costumes began.
I was fine -- I had a black long-sleeved Eddie Bauer
shirt, jeans,
and my Time Turner (with enough eyeliner and red lipstick, I figured I
could pass for Bellatrix Lestrange, if I was cranky enough by midnight)
-- or an ex-girlfriend of Lupin's (had to break up with him because
he'd
never go for walks with me on a romantic full moonlit night).
Allan returned from the storage room with a very
nice red-lined
black satin cape. Except it looked like Dracula, Ginger pointed
out,
and I, who'd thought the same thing, suggested reversing it and wearing
the red on the outside. She and I agreed that Gilderoy Lockhart
would
happily wear a red cape if it helped him stand out more -- and wouldn't
Allan be a great Gilderoy! ("Do you have any headshots from your
books?" "And you can carry a stack of your books...") And that was that
-- within an hour, Allan had transformed into the self-proclaimed
fabulous Gilderoy Lockhart, entering the room as if he was stepping out
of a romance paperback cover - fluffy hair, chin high, head held back,
poofy shirt open at the chest with scarfs wrapped around his neck,
ornate hand mirror, a stack of books (not his), and his "Gilderoy
Lockhart, the pleasure is all yours" smarmy smiling attitude.
Ginger
drew a cleft in his chin with some highlights for dimples, and it
wasn't long before he spied a small mirror (belonging to one of
Jameson's baby dolls, Jameson wasted no time informing him) that he
taped onto the end his wand (with permission from Jameson) so he could
admire himself while casting spells.
Ginger found a lovely black summery dress, and
wrapped around her one of the
shawls I brought -- the golden pumpkins, witches and stars on the black
satin looked marvellous against the black dress. Simon suggested
she
go as some professor that registered with none of us and we could never
remember. She said she was the seamstress.
And, of course, more last minute items -- the
Gryffindor badges to
be made (a photo copy of a badge Simon had), Simon putting the
finishing touches on his red (and broken-looking) wand (because Ron's
wand was broken in the second one). A quick family photo by the
fireplace (no, Jameson would NOT put on the robe yet), and just as we
were leaving, I brought out the "invisibility cloak" and the kids were
thrilled. Ginger came up with the plan for me to show it to them,
explain that they can wear it as they enter the shop, but then I'll
take it back and hold it for the evening (and it goes back to Atlanta
with me). One last picture before we go -- the kids under the
invisibility
cloak -- and off to the party we go!
